VIRTUAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR FIRST NATION COMMUNITIES:

COMMUNITY CONNECTOR TRAINING SESSIONS


WHAT

Training is open to those First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities wanting to participate in the project. A Community Connector could be a nurse, health staff, cancer survivor or a trusted member of the community who will be open to learning about information, services and resources CancerCare Manitoba has available for clients. A spot will be held for every First Nation community in Manitoba.


WHEN

The training session will be offered over four consecutive weeks and will require three hours per week from participants. Training will be offered on on the following dates:

November 24 & 26, 2020

December 1 & 3, 2020

December 8 & 10, 2020

December 15 & 17, 2020


WHERE

All training will be online via Zoom.

Registration will be made available through Eventbrite, registration will be open from October 19- November 6. Please speak with

your Health Director or CHR in your community before registering.


WHY

By providing training, participants within the community will become Community Connectors. They will gain knowledge and information to provide peer support and navigation to assist local patients and family members during their cancer experience. They will be a trusted member of the community who can help connect peers with resources and supports as needed. This role is community-driven and communities will help identify community-specific needs for this role.
